Call for Proposals – History and Philosophy of Psychology (HPP) Section
CPA Convention, 2017
June 8-10, Fairmont Royal York, Toronto Ontario
The History and Philosophy of Psychology (HPP) Section is seeking proposals for symposia, individual oral paper presentations, theory reviews, and roundtable session submissions, as well as posters and Gimme-5 presentations for the Canadian Psychological Association’s 78th Annual Convention (Thursday, June 8th to Saturday, June 10th, 2017) in Toronto, Ontario.
This year, the proposal submission deadlines are much earlier. The usual format for our section has been oral presentations, including individual papers, symposia, and theory review sessions. This year the deadline for submitting proposals for these formats is Friday, November 11. Proposals for roundtable discussions are also due Friday, November 11.
There is also a new form of presentation, the Gimme-5. These 5-minute oral presentations might be a good option for first time presenters, or for work that can be encapsulated into a briefer format. Deadline for submission for Gimme-5 and posters is Friday, December 2.
This coming year, CPA programming changes mean we can expect many fewer hours for symposia, oral paper, and theory review sessions. Conferences are an excellent time to share our ideas, so it will be important for us to be open and creative in finding ways to work with the changes that CPA is implementing.
We are encouraging section members to consider whether a different format, especially the poster and Gimme-5, might be a good way to showcase their work. Our program will be able to accommodate many more posters and Gimme-5 Sessions, so taking advantage of these formats will allow us to offer a wide range of programming to represent the diverse interests and work across our section.
For the past several years our section has not used the roundtable format, so please consider whether the kind of informal conversation offered by a roundtable session might be a good way to foster meaningful dialogue about your work or a general topic of interest.
The Call for Submissions is now open and accessible via: http://www.cpa.ca/Convention/callforsubmissions/
If you have questions, please contact conference co-chairs Wanda Power (wpower[at]sfu.ca) or Raffi Aintablian (raffi.aintablian[at]ryerson.ca), or section chair Kate Slaney (klslaney[at]sfu.ca). We hope to put together a dynamic program for our section, and we look forward to receiving your submissions.
